Our town is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. They’ve scheduled concerts, fireworks, bouncy houses, funnel cake stands etc., and on Saturday, we packed up the chairs and blanket, picked up Uncle Dave and Aunt Jamae (also Jamae’s sister Chelsea and her baby Hailey) and found a good spot for the anniversary parade.
While we waited for the parade to begin we admired the balloons.
But we didn’t buy any and amazingly no one seemed to mind.
Then the parade began!
The kids kept their Candy Bags at the ready.
We saw lots of familiar faces, like Jack’s buddy Alicia…
And my friend Lisa with her second youngest. Who can resist a pacifier sucking, fluffy-haired, pink-cheeked float waver? Not me.
Hey look! There’s Grandma H. with the Red Hatters!
And Maria from Mangia, Figlie! Who knew she played the bells??
The Seltzer’s Bologna float threw out Sweet Bologna sticks. We all scrambled to get these, and we all enjoyed them, but I think Hailey liked them the most. She sucked and gnawed on hers for a good fifteen minutes.
There were lots of Bands too. The Palmyra Alumni Band (Maria’s), the Palmyra High School Band, the Lebanon Valley College Band,
…and even some Mummers imported from Philadelphia!
It was a hot day and a long parade. Spirits began to flag.
But the Hershey Kiss car arrived just in time to get everyone excited again. The ladies walking alongside the Kiss Car handed out huge handfuls of Kisses to all of us! (Sidenote for those of you not from our town—Hershey is our next door neighbor!)
Even Santa made time for our parade!
We loved the parade, and the candy haul was awesome! Ben was thrilled that he got Razzles.
I’m thinking we may have enough candy to last us until Halloween. The dentist will be so pleased.
Happy 250th Anniversary, Palmyra!

Sooooo sad that we missed it! (Dang sports) But I almost feel like I was there thanks to you!!!!!
We would've had great seats since it went right by our house...I could've charged people to use our bathroom!
Nothing else shouts rural USA like a hometown parade. Looks like a "Norman Rockwell" afternoon. I love the Sweet Bologna stick photo :)
