“To prolong cut lilac flowers for arrangements and bouquets, I like to cut the stems at a 45-degree angle using a sharp knife and place them in a bucket with just enough lukewarm water to cover the cuts.  Then I pop open a bottle of champagne and toast my superior knowledge of all things good. ” ~ Martha Stewart

So many people can’t be wrong about lilacs!  My two favorite weeks of the year are just about over:  the air sweet with lilacs, my five lilac bushes teeming with the drooping, lacy blooms, a vase of gorgeous lilacs fills my kitchen with their lovely, honeyed scent.

I found this haiku, which I think describes this particular stormy spring pretty well:

picnickers flee
a slate-gray sky –
lilacs glow

~Dagosan

Lilac time is almost over.  I hope you have some wherever you are!
